Erskine Manor

Erskine Manor is one of South Bend’s most beautiful neighborhoods, and probably its most historic. Erskine Manor is heavily wooded with hills, winding streets, and distinguished homes. It dates back to the 1920s, when it was the estate of the Studebaker Automobile Company’s president, Albert Russel Erskine.

Since that time, it has been the home of the nuns of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, and in the 1980s was developed into an upscale residential neighborhood of condos, townhouses, and single family homes.

Because there is only one entrance to the neighborhood, there is little traffic and because the homes are set back from the street and shielded by mature trees, the homes have a greater degree of privacy than most neighborhoods in the South Bend Area. Many homeowners have carefully landscaped their lots to add to their privacy without simply adding a hedgerow to block out the public, creating a community that is both pretty and private.
